Mystic Lake Casino is a large facility near Minneapolis which is going through a multi-year renovation one section at a time while keeping the rest of the facility open. The major lighting element is a "river" of acrylic with a stylized fire appearance that runs above the pathways of the entire casino. The river is both backlit with Traxon XB Wash fixtures and the coves along the edges are lit with Traxon RGB Cove fixtures.
At the moment there are thousands of fixtures in place with thousands more planned before completion. Each fixture must have its position mapped inside the patch so that when the feature is complete, complex cueing running throughout the casino can take place.
For this installation I developed a method of extracting coordinates from the CAD files generaged by the lighting designer and importing them into the e:cue using a peice of custom written software. For the original portion of the installation, prior to the development of this software it took two people two full work days to translate all of the coordinates while converting the same information now takes a single person less than an hour.
The below image shows two portions of the patch file, along with a zoomed in view. Each square in the zoomed view represents a fixture that is approximately 1 foot long.
